Producing content for mobile devices isn't just about creating web pages -- it's also about enabling access to that content. Enter QR codes -- visual prompts for smart phones that quickly access information without having to enter text on touchy keypads.

Imagine pulling up information on your phone as fast as your network allows…that’s the reality of using QR codes to transfer information. QR, or Quick Response codes, are graphics that represent text, much like the UPC codes you see on everything in the grocery store. And even though your smartphone can help you order more Cheetos from amazon.com, it’s even faster with this technology!

QR codes are simply text files stored in a graphic format. It’s like walking through your world with your own personal barcode scanner.
  • Need someone’s phone info? If they store it as a QR code on their business card, you can transfer it from paper to your address book with a single click.
  • Need to clean out your coffeemaker? Create a QR code to the instructions on the web, print the qr code, and stick it to the side of the machine. Click the code to see the instructions.
  • Want to see the company manual online? Scan the QR code in your hardcopy to see the latest holiday schedule.
  • Ordering supplies? Place the QR code for supplies on the door of the supply cabinet.

In this 90-minute presentation, Matt will show you some of the innovative ways people are using QR codes and how you can start using them right away. Matt will also give you examples of poor or inappropriate use of QR code technology.

Bring your web-enabled camera phone, so you can try it out for yourself. You’ll have a chance to create your own QR codes during class, and then email them for printout at home.
